About Best Foot Forward Nursing

I'm a Registered Nurse, Certified Foot Care Specialist, and a member of the American Foot Care Nurses Association. This means that I have additional and specialized training in how to care for feet, and have taken a certification exam to ensure my competence. Whether you have long, thick toenails, or you have health conditions that affect your feet and legs, I can help you make a plan to help prevent wounds and amputations. I provide diabetic foot care and assess ingrown toenails, then safely trim toenails, corns, and calluses, using best practices and high level disinfection to reduce your risk of infections.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and in Health and Wellness Promotion, and I've been a practicing RN for a decade. I have a background in Primary Care, Infection Prevention, and Wound Care. I have worked with Podiatrists and Vascular Surgeons providing care for feet and legs with wounds, amputations, and surgeries.  

I travel to you at your home or living community and bring my supplies with me. We will talk about your general health, medications, and allergies. I provide diabetic foot care by checking the skin on your feet and lower legs, looking for any signs of a problem, and by performing a nursing assessment. I will discuss my findings with you, and make suggestions for things you can do to keep your feet healthy and protected. If I find a problem I can't help you with, I will review options with you so you can make the best decision for yourself. My suggestions could include home care advice, or a referral to another type of health care provider. 

I will use special tools to carefully trim and sand your toenails and calluses, and treat ingrown toenails. I will apply lotion or cream to your feet and lower legs, and give you a mini foot and leg massage. I can advise on padding for your feet and/or shoes to protect your skin, and I can provide basic padding to you at low cost.
